2/29/2012

I actually had a decent week this week :)  Hope to get a bunch more done this weekend while Ryan is away!

Mom’s Table runner
Due: As soon as possible since it was a Christmas gift
Description: An English paper piecing project that has hexagons in the body and then appliquéd violets on it.  When I started this project I didn’t know I would have to hand stitch most of the top.
Sequence:
  1.      Wash, press and Cut fabric…DONE
  2.      Baste all hexagons and stitch together… 1/2 complete
  3.      Complete quilt top with appliqué … Not Started
  4.      Quilting … Not Started
  5.      Binding and Finishing … Not Started
Goal Last Week: Get hexagons 2/3 completeGoal This Week: I did do some work on it but i still haven't gotten to the 2/3 mark.  It took me 2hrs to do 6 hexagons so it's taking about 20mins each, yikes!  I have about 20 more hexagons before the 2/3 point.

March Shoebox Swap

2/28/2012

I had a lot of fun with this month's shoebox swap crafts.  This month I wanted to do items that had more embellishing on them so here's what i did.

Shamrock Clips
I cut out heart shapes in varying size and in two colors of green felt.  Then I nested them and glued them all together to create a shamrock shape.  Finally, I glued a hair clip on the back and a few sequins on the front for glam factor.  I was originally thinking about just using them as hair clips but they would also be cute as shoe clips (to dress up some boring flats at work on St. Patty's day) or  to clip onto a purse or bag if you don't want to wear green on the big day, heehee.  I got my inspiration from the link below:http://www.sugarbeecrafts.com/2012/02/shamrock-heart-hairclips.html

We finally got our loveseat that we've been waiting on since Christmas.  It looks great and is so comfy.  I think our guests will love that their seats recline :)  Here's Ryan enjoying the new loveseat (we figured we should sit on all the cushions so they wear evenly).

If I Won The Lottery

2/21/2012

For anyone who didn’t already know, a couple of weeks ago someone one $375 million dollars on the powerball (the most ever won I think).  Ever since then, I keep thinking about what it would be like to win that kind of money.  I have about a million different ideas about what exactly I would do with the money (how much to invest, how much to give away, how much to spend, etc) but I could never decide on what plan I liked best.  So instead, I decided to think about what my ideal day/week would be like if I had that kind of money (obviously I would quit my job).  Since I don’t have kids yet, this schedule represents what would happen if I won right now (I know it would change drastically if I had kids but I don’t so I can do whatever I want for now…).

Valentine's Day Nails

Ok I know, I know...valentines day was last week.  But I wanted to paint my nails for Valentine's Day and I never got around to it so I did it last night.  I vowed to try to get better at girly stuff (like painting my nails) and in high school I used to be good at painting them.  I've painted them a couple times with solid colors recently and it went fairly well so I decided to try something more difficult.  My solid color manicure typically lasts for 6-7 days but we'll see how long this lasts (I'll post an update later this week).

For anyone who doesn't know already, I've been working on a program to make my once a month cooking a little easier.  Right now, I'm doing it in MS Access but that's just because I don't know any programming - Ryan says once I get the functionality I want he will help me convert it into a web app.  Eventually I want it to have TONS of functionality but for now, here's what i want to get working:

Heroes TV Series

A month ago, I posted that Ryan and I had finished watching all the episodes of Star Trek Voyager and that we were thinking about watching Heroes.  Well, thanks to Netflix Ryan and I just finished watching the last episode of the show.  I immediately wanted to write a review on my blog but I have been struggling to decide how to do it since so much happened in the plot over the course of 4 seasons.  The show was broken into “volumes” and each one has its own contained a plot of its own.  Originally I was going to talk about each volume and what happened and what I thought of it but there is just too much that happened for me to describe it all.  If you want a rough overview of the show itself, you can check out the link below to the Wikipedia article on it:
