Shoebox Swap
Recently, my latest internet obsession has been Pinterest (www.Pinterest.com). Here is a brief description from their site:
“Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.
Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.”
Browsing people’s ideas on Pinterest has inspired me to want to create many crafts that I have never tried before and I now have hundreds of ideas “pinned” that I want to make at some point. But it always seems like I never make anything for myself. With all of my crafting and sewing, I’m always too busy with the projects I’ve committed to for other people that I never make time to sew things for my home or myself. I saw that many of my friends were having the same issue so I decided to start a craft swap. I call it the Shoebox Swap. The purpose is to make something (or multiple things) that are new to you (ex: If you have always wanted to try quilting, a small pot holder project might be perfect for you to try) for each month of the year. You make some for yourself and some to swap (plus you then get a box from whoever swapped with you) and you end up with handmade goods for every month of the year.
The Shoebox Swap started January 1, 2012 with 8 participants but I hope it continues to grow so we can share our love of all things DIY and teach each other how to do lots of new crafts.
