Once all the star centers were complete, it was time to use up all those flying geese and the rest of my cut pieces to make the surrounds for the stars.

After I finally finished trimming all of those flying geese, the next step was to assemble the star centers (although it's kind of funny since you don't need the flying geese for this step). Remember all the Half Square Triangles I made? It's time to turn those into the star centers!
Earlier this week, Ryan stumbled across a 3 day event hosted by Florida Tech called the Spacecoast Startup Weekend. The point is to gather a bunch of aspiring entrepreneurs, investors, tech experts, etc and all work on projects. It started last night and after getting to know each other, people had the opportunity to make a business pitch. Then everyone voted on the best ideas and they formed teams to try to make a little more progress on the business idea. I haven't gotten to hear too much about how it's going but he must be having fun since he didn't come home until almost 4am and then he was out the door again by 8am! So what am I up to while Ryan is gone all weekend? Well I'll give you a hint...
Yesterday I had a serious (and hilarious) wardrobe malfunction that I thought might make you chuckle. As many of you know, when I run before work with my running partner, we meet in Vero Beach kind of near our work. Our meeting place is about 45mins away from my house so I just go to a local gym and shower there. Well I knew eventually I would forget something important but it hadn't happened yet. Yesterday was also a very rare occasion where I decided to wear a skirt to work (no real reason, I just don't do it that often).
I finished my run and went to the gym to shower. I started unpacking my stuff out of my bag: shower toiletries...check, shirt...check, bra...check, skirt...check, underwear...UNDERWEAR?? Where are you underwear! Yep, totally forgot them. I finished getting ready commando style but there was no way I was wearing a skirt to work without something underneath. I went next door to Kmart but apparently they don't open until 8am and I had to be at work at 7:30am. Walmart was pretty far away but there was a Publix nearby so I went to Publix and got a pair of pantyhose. That's kind of like underwear right? LOL. Later that day, I had a second workout and then had to quickly shower and put my work clothes (and new pantyhose) back on so I could get back to Palm Bay for dinner with a friend. When I got to the restaurant, my shirt was feeling weird...I put it on backwards, LOL. I swear you'd think no one taught me how to dress myself. Haha! After I worked on the Half Square Triangles last week, it was time to use some of the other cut pieces to make a bunch of flying geese. How many geese will be in my flock? 192!! Holy moly. This week's work is based on the following link from the official Quilt Along (it's over but i'm still trucking along): http://happyquiltingmelissa.blogspot.com/2013/08/star-surround-quilt-long-flying-geese.html
As most of you know, I've been trying really hard this year to slough off some of the extra weight I've put on since college. You know those little shoulder angels they show in the movies? Below is my favorite from Kronk. Well sometimes, I have intense cravings for snacks or sweets. I'm not often actually hungry I just decide I want Coke or ice cream or a snickers (or a Snicker's ice cream, even better). So now I just try to visualize my "shoulder angels", LOL. Tonight is definitely one of those nights - wish me luck!!
After I got all the shirts cut, I was ready to start interfacing the shirts. For anyone that hasn't used interfacing - it's just a thin layer that gets ironed on to keep the shirts from stretching. I used that table I made that shows all the cut sizes of the shirts and cut squares of interfacing to match.
The previous Chapter Advisor for Alpha Phi (and my friend) Bianca, recently asked me if I could make her a tshirt quilt. She said she had a TON of shirts but I didn't believe her. When she finally brought them over, they were in a big suitcase and she wasn't kidding - there were a ton. First thing I did was to make a rough layout so I could quote her based on the finished size. There were so many shirts, the only way I could do it was to make it double sided.
This year for our Halloween party, I wanted to come up with a new game so I decided to try out our own version of Fear Factor!
It's not Ryan's birthday weekend but it may as well have been, LOL. It started with a golf tournament on his off-Friday. Then Saturday he went to the gun range with Josh while I took down Halloween decorations. After the gun range, he watched the Florida-Georgia football game while I worked on sewing and then he went fishing with Al. Today, we went over to Lakeland for a Prepper's & Gun Expo. Sadly they wouldn't let me take pics but it wasn't as big of an expo as i had hoped based on its location. The two coolest things were the Silverfire Stoves (compact cooking stoves that can burn small twigs and such), the WaterBob (a 100 gallon bladder you put in the tub and fill with water if you know you might soon have no water, only $20), and Thrive Foods (dehydrated fruits and can organizing systems). Finally we wrapped up the weekend with one of his all time favorite movies: Jurassic Park!
