March Shoebox Swap

2/28/2012

I had a lot of fun with this month's shoebox swap crafts.  This month I wanted to do items that had more embellishing on them so here's what i did.

Shamrock Clips
I cut out heart shapes in varying size and in two colors of green felt.  Then I nested them and glued them all together to create a shamrock shape.  Finally, I glued a hair clip on the back and a few sequins on the front for glam factor.  I was originally thinking about just using them as hair clips but they would also be cute as shoe clips (to dress up some boring flats at work on St. Patty's day) or  to clip onto a purse or bag if you don't want to wear green on the big day, heehee.  I got my inspiration from the link below:http://www.sugarbeecrafts.com/2012/02/shamrock-heart-hairclips.html

Foam Coasters
Similar to last month but I used foam this time instead of felt and I glued it instead of sewed them.  Lastly I added some silver glitter glue but I didn't take a pic after adding the glitter. Some of them are a green background with a light green shamrock popping out and others are a white background with a shamrock window in the green.

Shrinkfilm Keychains
Apparently shrinkfilm has been around forever but I had never heard of it until I saw it on Pinterest lately.  So I bought a pack of shrinkfilm sheets and printed out some designs from my computer.  Then I traced the designs onto the shrinkfilm with sharpies and baked them.  Once they were cool I added the key rings and some sequins (I told you I was excited about the sequins this time, LOL).  The shrinkfilm was actually really fun to work with.  I wanted to make bracelets with some little charms but it was going to be too expensive to get the rest of the jewelry supplies...oh well, maybe next time.  I couldn't believe the change in thickness of the sheets.  It starts out paper thin and after it shrinks it is probably .125" thick.

Papercraft Banner
I printed out Irish maps, cut them into banner shapes, glued on shamrock pieces and embellished with markers and sequins.  Last but not least, I punched holes in each and strung it up with a green satin ribbon.  Using a thicker ribbon made it so the banners stayed in place after being hung without sliding together at the bottom of the arch.  I got my inspiration for this from the link below: http://lilluna.com/st-patricks-day-banner/
