Last year we stayed at a cheap motel and it wasn't that great - the hardest part was that we had no way to cook any scallops we caught. This year we decided to rent a house and we ended up a little farther south than last year based on where we could find a rental house. The house we rented is in Hernando Beach, FL and has 3 bedrooms plus a loft and a library so we have 3 actual beds, one futon, two full size air mattresses and one person on a couch (we brought an air mattress but there are a lot of couches here).
Last year for Labor Day, we went over to Homosassa, FL on the west coast for our first scalloping trip. We had so much fun that we decided to plan another trip. Since 4th of July was on a Thursday this year, we figured we could go for an extra day or two by going on 4th of July instead of labor day. Last year we had 8 people but this year we got 12 signed up: Me & Ryan, Ashley & Matt (flew in from California), Ryan's mom Mary (from St. Augustine), Al & Doreen, Charlie & Mary (and their baby), Pete & Vicki, and Eddie (flew in from Marlyand).

I recently switched from reading my blogs via Blogger to reading them from BlogLovin and it really is much better. Now I feel like I can have more blogs in there without feeling overwhelmed because it lets you sort them by category (for me, I have sewing blots, fitness blogs, etc) and you can quickly mark posts as read and it will gray them out! This way it only highlights new posts from each blog but you can still easily click on a blog and see all the old posts if you want. Anyways, because I’ve added more blogs that I’m following now, I noticed a lot of the sewing blogs are doing Scrap Basket Sunday where they use their scrap fabrics to make blocks (and eventually quilts). I want to start in but I still have so many other unfinished projects that I want to finish. I decided I am still going to do Scrap Basket Sunday but here’s how mine will work:
First, I’ll choose an unfinished project (not customer’s projects or planned gifts, has to be a project for me or us or just for fun). Then each Sunday, I am going to commit to doing at least a LITTLE bit of work on that project until it’s finished (and then I can choose a new project). I’m not going to define how much I need to do each week or I have a feeling I’ll quickly get overwhelmed and stop doing it. So whether it’s 5 minutes or 5 hours, any time I have to put towards that project counts! I decided to start with one of the sewing expo projects that is on my design wall called Tumbling Leaves. I first posted about it right after the expo (click the pic to read more): For my birthday this year (it was in April), Ryan told me he was going to build the kitchen island I had designed. Around February or March, I sketched up a design of a small cabinet and counter top to put in our kitchen against the window and window ledge. We currently have the trash can and recycling bin there so the space is taken up anyways and the trash bins are rather unsightly. So I drew up some plans for something to conceal the bins, give me a little more storage space, and give me a little more counter room.
Once I got all that fabric organized and put away, I was finally able to get to the quilt machine, yay! First I loaded the quilt onto the quilt frame and used my Quiltak gun to baste down the edges (it shoots little plastic tags like the ones in clothing tags).
Happy Fourth of July!! For this year, I got a fourth of July pedicure and everyone's been commenting on my cute red, white and blue toes, heehee. I wanted to do a manicure too but i just ran out of time.
We did a shoebox swap for 4th of July and I made a super cute pillow for Doreen. It was pretty easy and it took me about 4 hours to make. Here’s a mini-tutorial for how to make it - click the "Read More" button to get the full tutorial. Can you believe we are already half way through the year?? I feel like just yesterday I was writing up an eval for first quarter. Before you know it summer will be over and it will be time for Halloween! At the beginning of the year I set some goals for myself and I promised to report how I’ve been doing on them so here’s the second quarterly overview. How are your new year’s goals or resolutions going? Did you already forget about them?
A couple weeks ago at Bootcamp with Bonnie & Steve, Bonnie was giving away some extra shirts she had. When she got to the bottom of the box, all that was left was a size XL women’s tshirt that no one wanted since none of us are big enough to wear even a size L let alone an XL tshirt (it’s not a fitted tee either). I hadn’t gotten a shirt though so I told Bonnie I’d take it and modify it to fit me; she seemed unsure but I was confident and I wanted the shirt, lol. Now these are REALLY bad pics so I apologize in advance but they are late in my quilt room with bad lighting and to take pics of myself on my phone I had to just prop it up on the desk so the angles and such are a bit odd. Here’s a picture of me wearing the shirt in its original state – look how huge it is!
If you remember my post about Diet Freezer cooking, I said I was going to try to make some homemade Strawberry Banana meal replacement bars for us to eat. I found this recipe online and it looked pretty easy so I decided to try it.
Ingredients: 1 cup oatmeal 5 scoops protein powder (I used unflavored) ¼ cup Fat Free Cream Cheese 2 Egg Whites ¼ cup Almond Milk ¾ mashed Banana plus an equal amount of pureed strawberries 2 tsp Canola Oil First I mixed the dry ingredients in one bowl, the fruit in one bowl and the remaining liquids in another. |
