For my birthday this year (it was in April), Ryan told me he was going to build the kitchen island I had designed. Around February or March, I sketched up a design of a small cabinet and counter top to put in our kitchen against the window and window ledge. We currently have the trash can and recycling bin there so the space is taken up anyways and the trash bins are rather unsightly. So I drew up some plans for something to conceal the bins, give me a little more storage space, and give me a little more counter room. We were so busy that Ryan didn’t even get to buy the supplies for making it until sometime in May and then he hasn’t really gotten to work on it since then. But last weekend, he made some time to work on it and made some really great progress! First he ripped all the boards down to size and built the main portion of the box. We carried it inside so we could see how it fit under the window and we also did a test fit with the trash cans to make sure everything was going as planned. It looks great already, I’m so excited! Next, Ryan sketched out the curved edge I wanted for some open shelving. Don’t get too excited, but I might put something decorative **gasp** on them. Cool huh? By the time he got all that done, he was ready for break time. Apparently so was doggy. Next up on his list for this project: build the shelf and install the leg/support and then build the doors. More to come soon I hope!
