Ziploc Divided Containers

You might recall that I have been continuing to pack Ryan's lunches (I mean specific meals, not just throwing whatever leftovers I can find into a tupperware and lunchbox).  I was tired of washing several containers of varying sizes every day when Ryan came home so I did some digging on what lunchbox containers were out there and which were the best.  After my research, I settled on getting some Ziploc Divided Containers.
Picture
The divided containers have three different sections, the main one holds 2.75 cups (it's about the right size for a sandwich), the next one holds 3/4 cup and then the smallest is 1/2 cup.  The best part of these containers is that the lid actually seals all three compartments separately.  So even if you put liquids in one and dry goods in another and shake it up...they will never mix or spill into the other compartments!

I tend to make one entree for Ryan and then put a side dish of some sort in the medium container and a little dessert in the smallest container.  The desserts are really easy to do layered desserts like trifles.  The cherry one at the top picture is graham cracker crumbs on the bottom, then a mix of cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk, topped with cherry pie filling.  I pack four lunches at a time on Sunday to get through the week so it's pretty easy to make the desserts.

You can get these containers on Amazon pretty inexpensively, click here to see them on Amazon.  Here's some ideas on what you can put in these containers in case you pack your own lunch or your spouses:
Entrees (Main container)
  • Buffalo Chicken Taquitos
  • Homemade Stromboli or pizza roll-up
  • Buffalo Chicken and Blue Cheese Sandwich
  • Burrito or tacos
  • Seafood Salad

Side Dish (3/4 cup container)
  • Carrots and Celery with hummus or ranch
  • Bruschetta or caprese salad
  • Salsa (pack chips separately)
  • Pickle

Dessert (smallest container)
  • Cherry Pie: 1-2 tbsp graham crackers, 1oz cream cheese mixed with 1 oz sweetened condensed milk, top with cherry pie filling
  • Banana Cream Pie: Crushed vanilla wafers or golden oreos, banana pudding, homemade whipped cream and a little chocolate syrup
  • Butterfinger Pie: Crushed oreos, peanut butter mousse, whipped cream, crushed butterfingers
  • Key Lime Pie: Crushed graham crackers, lime jello, cool whip

If you have any other ideas for packed lunches, I'd love to hear them!

:( My oldest child started kindergarten just a few weeks ago. I did a lot of blog reading on lunch ideas before the year started, and everyone seemed to rave about the Ziploc divided containers. I looked for them everywhere to no avail and then emailed the company. Unfortunately I was told that Ziploc is no longer making them. Do you perhaps have any suggestions for other similar containers?
