Yay for a Productive Weekend!

Friday was supposed to be my off Friday so I was looking forward to getting a lot of sewing and work around the house done.  Unfortunately our manager made us come in to work even though we are ahead of schedule – he said we should try to get “further ahead”.  I tried to argue that this was not a valid reason to make my group come in on their day off but he overruled me.  So I went in and worked a half day and then headed out at lunch.  On the way home, I ate at Osceola Bistro to see if this restaurant would work out for our rehearsal dinner and I think it’s going to be perfect!  The food was fresh and light, and the atmosphere was neat too. They have a big patio that looks like it could easily hold 50-60 people which is more than enough for us.  The patio is covered and has lights and fans and the whole area is surrounded by greenery.  There’s even a fountain out there!  They don’t require a deposit or anything so now they are holding the date with them and we just have to send in our menu choices.  I also checked out a couple of breakfast places to see if there was somewhere our family could all eat breakfast at together after the wedding but I haven’t found anything I like yet so I’ll have to keep searching.

When I got home, I was happy to see that the supplies for my wedding invitations had arrived, yay!  I got the pocketfolds, envelopes, rsvp envelopes, some green cardstock and some white ribbon all from www.cardsandpockets.com.  I stopped at walmart and got the white cardstock I need for printing the invites on as well as some double sided tape to adhere the invitations to the mat and the mat to the pocketfold.  I had ordered a custom address stamp that has our names and address (not just for the wedding but to use instead of sticky labels).  It is a self inking stamp and is really cool!  It came in the mail on Friday too, yay!  The only thing remaining is a monogram stamp I ordered just for the wedding.  The main invitation design is done but I needed to finish the enclosure cards.  I worked on the design on Friday and then did a test print/cut but some of the text was outside of the printer’s printable area so it got cut off.  I think I need to change the orientation of the text and reprint.  Then I’ll be ready to assemble invites next week with my stepmom Laurie.

Saturday we slept in because we stayed up too late watching TV the night before.  After we finally got up we went and had brunch at The Blueberry Muffin with our friends Nate & Kayla.  It was really fun to get to see them since they have been traveling or away most of the summer.  After brunch, Ryan and I cleaned out our cars.  My car was so overdue for a wash!  It took forever to get all the grime out of all the doorjambs, nooks and crannies.  Plus I vacuumed it out and cleaned out all the trash.  Next weekend I can hopefully wash it again to make sure it’s spotless, wax it, and get a couple of stains out of my floormats.  As soon as I was done washing my car, I headed to the Orlando Airport to pick up my Aunt and cousin.  Their whole family is going on a cruise out of Port Canaveral and they needed a ride back from the airport.  I picked them up, drove them to their hotel, and then brought them to my house to hang out and have a few beers.  We went to Matt’s Casbah for dinner which is my favorite place to eat in downtown Melbourne.  The food is always delicious there!  We also got a few drinks at Lexi’s Martini Bar and then went back to my house to play some cards.  I finally brought them back to their hotel around midnight.  It was so much fun to get to hang out with my awesome aunt and two of my cousins who are both about the same age as me.

Sunday turned out to be even busier than Saturday!  Throughout the day, I cleaned the entire downstairs, did about 10 loads of laundry, vacuumed all the furniture, helped Ryan give the cat and the dog a bath (they have fleas unfortunately) and tried to get everything clean and ready for the week.  In between chores, I also squeezed in some sewing.  I created layouts and quotes for three quilts for a customer on my Etsy site.  One is a double sided t-shirt quilt and the other two are smaller quilts made from baby clothes.  This is just a rough layout where I fold the shirts into their approximate final size and lay out what it would look like.  Then if the customer likes it, I create a custom listing on Etsy and after they purchase it I start cutting.  Once I start cutting and sewing, it can’t be undone which is why I usually have them purchase the listing before I do anything.

I also worked on Gwen’s quilt some (finally), yay!  I cut and pressed the fabric for the borders and sashing and then I cut all the required pieces.  I also sewed the vertical sashing strips to the shirt blocks so that now all the rows are completed.  Hopefully tonight I can sew on the horizontal sashing to join all the rows together.  I need to get Gwen’s quilt onto the quilt machine before I can start doing any cutting/piecing on the new quilts that were ordered.  I can’t wait to finally finish Gwen’s quit, I’m sure she’s been waiting for it for what seems like forever!
