Wedding Update

Reception:
On Friday, Ryan and I got to go do our menu tasting, yay!  First we got to taste six appetizers and had to select four of them for cocktail hour:

  • Citrus marinated rock shrimp
  • Fire roasted tomatoes and fresh mozzarella
  • Ginger marinated beef skewers
  • Spring rolls with sweet chili sauce
  • Mini crab cakes with herbed remoulade
  • Mini meatballs with yellow tomato saffron sauce
It was pretty tough to eliminate any of them because they were all pretty darn good!  But we decided to eliminate the fire roasted tomatoes with mozzarella and the mini meatballs; the other four will all be offered.  Then we tried two salads: one was a classic Caesar salad and the other had goat cheese, candied pecans and a champagne vinaigrette.  We picked the Caesar salad because we figured more people like Caesar salad.  Of course I liked the Caesar and Ryan liked the other salad better.

Then we got to try two entrées, two potatoes and two vegetables.  For the entrées, it was a little odd because we had to pick two entrées but we only got to try two.  So we both agreed that prime rib would be a choice and that we would just trust that they can make a tasty prime rib since the rest of the food at this place is really good.  We decided to try the stuffed chicken breasts with wild mushroom sauce and the pan seared mahi mahi.  The chicken was pretty good but the fish was amazing!  I think the fish was about the only thing Ryan and I agreed on.  The potato choices were mashed or fingerling – I liked mashed, he liked fingerling and we picked fingerling.  The vegetables were green beans or asparagus – I liked the green beans, he liked the asparagus and we picked green beans.  I’m pretty excited because all the food should be really tasty.  Hopefully I’m not too busy or anxious to eat at the reception, haha! The only downside is that they serve Pepsi, yuck!  I might have to sneak in some Coke 2-liters or something, lol.

Bridal Party:
I think one of the bridesmaids has ordered their dress so far and then the other four still need to order their dress.  The bridesmaids are starting to look at their calendar and figure out when would be a good time for a bridal shower and bachelorette party – I think they are thinking towards the end of September which is a little early but works for all their schedules.  We haven’t really talked about what we want to do for a bachelorette party yet but I’m sure when we do I’ll keep you guys updated.

Ryan and I haven’t gone and picked out what the guys will wear, we might try to do that this weekend. I am still waiting for Ryan to ask his last groomsmen to be in the wedding (he keeps forgetting) before I put up their pics/info on our wedding site and then they will probably start planning their crazy bachelor party plans (which will probably be a whole weekend long).

Invitations:
I still haven’t sent save the dates to two people on Ryan’s side because he hasn’t gotten me addresses and with invitations going out in about a month I’m wondering if it’s even worth it to send them now?  I got all the main invitations attached to the green mat and am starting to attach the green mats into the purple pocketfolders.  I finished up the RSVP card design but I am waiting on the hotel room block contract/info before finalizing the other enclosure cards.  I got my stamps for the RSVP and main envelopes so I will probably stick those on soon too.

Decorations & Favors:
I haven’t made any more progress on ideas for decorations or favors – in fact I got set back a little bit after our menu tasting.  I kind of had an idea in my head but based on what tables they are using it won’t work out.  Plus I thought they were going to use the normal restaurant chairs which look fine, but they are going to use ugly banquet chairs and want $3ea if I want a cover/sash for each chair.  I wasn’t really planning on spending $400 just to make the chairs look better.  My mom is coming to visit in mid-August so I may do some other stuff now and she can help me figure out the reception décor.

I also need to figure out favors – I can never decide.  I typically like edible things because even after appetizers people are usually hungry waiting for dinner to be served at weddings.  Plus, I can’t think of many favors from other weddings that we’ve actually kept.  I think we maybe have a credit card style bottle opener somewhere but that’s about it.  So I need to decide if it will be edible, and if so, whether I would try to make something or buy something from a sweets shop or just do basic candy like jellybeans or something.  Hmmm…decisions, decisions…

Coming Up:
  • We really need to decide where we are going to go for our honeymoon and start making travel plans
  • Need to choose menu options for the rehearsal dinner at Osceola Bistro
  • Get all the bridesmaid dresses ordered and choose the groomsmen attire
  • Finish the invitations and get them ready to mail
  • I think we have our wedding bands picked out so we may as well go ahead and get them (I’ve been trying to space out our expenses so that we don’t owe a ton of money by the time the wedding gets here)
