Visit from Rusty

This past weekend, Ryan’s dad Rusty drove down from Maryland to drop off a car for Greg.  After he dropped off the car, Rusty and the Moore posse all came down to our house to visit on Saturday and Sunday.  They all got in around lunch time on Saturday so we met at Chili’s for lunch and then headed back to our house.  The usual craziness ensued – trying to make sure Addi doesn’t hurt herself, trying to keep Addi from turning off Aubrey’s movie, trying to keep Aubrey entertained, etc.  We were watching Tarzan with Aubrey but mid-way through the movie it was time for her nap.  We don’t have cable so we just left the movie on and hung out in the living room.  But then when Aubrey got up , the first thing she wanted to do was watch the rest of the movie, haha! I also made some peanut butter ice cream while the girls were napping – it is delicious!!

Saturday night, we decided to go back to Yellow Dog Café for dinner.  All of us (except the kids) had been there together once before and it wasn’t a great experience the first time.  We had a 7pm reservation and when we got there, we were seated downstairs in the far back corner, right next to a room that had some sort of party going on.  There were constantly people coming in and out of the party room and it was pretty loud.  It took a while before we ordered and when we did, the waiter RAVED about these potatoes they had on special and said we should all order them (so we did).  Well…we didn’t end up getting our food until after 10pm!  And when the food came, they were out of the potatoes so they gave us what tasted like McDonald’s hasbrowns.  On top of that, they wouldn’t comp a single thing off the check.  We were pretty upset and hadn’t been back since that time (three years ago).  But we decided to give them another try.  When we got there, they put us downstairs again (since we had kids with us) so we were a little worried.  Then we found out they didn’t have any highchairs which made it pretty interesting trying to keep Addi at the table, LOL.  But the waiter was very attentive, the service was quick and the food was delicious!  A complete opposite experience – I’m so glad we decided to go back!

After dinner (and the kids went to bed), we rented the movie “Ted” from Redbox.  I had heard it was hilarious but mostly we all just thought it was dumb.  There were some funny parts in it but overall I’d say it wasn’t my favorite…

Sunday morning I made waffles for everyone – can’t skip waffle weekends!  After brunch we went to the Turkey Creek preserve and took the kids for a walk along the boardwalk.  We didn’t see any manatees unfortunately but we saw lots of turtles and birds and then we even saw a raccoon.  The kids seemed to have fun and I was hoping they were pretty tuckered out after that…We went to Downtown Melbourne to get lunch at Matt’s Casbah (another of our favorite places).  The food was pretty good except apparently on Sundays they don’t serve lunch – they have brunch food until early afternoon and then dinner.  So we didn’t get to eat our usual favorites from the menu.

After lunch, Greg and Ryan took Rusty to the airport so he could fly home.  The kids were supposed to be napping but Aubrey was too wound up to nap at our house.  While the kids were (sort of) napping, Mel and I made the shirts for Greyson and Addi that I posted yesterday.  After the shirts, I attempted to make some dairy free chocolate ice cream for Mel (regular ice cream seems to upset Greyson’s tummy) and it came out great!  Now we just have to confirm that the dairy free ice cream doesn’t hurt his tummy too.  Eventually the boys got back and we pretty much just packed up, went to dinner and sent the Moore posse home (and then headed to watch the superbowl).  Overall, it was a really fun weekend and I’m so glad they were able to all come down and visit!  Now if only we could find a way for Mary to come down with Rusty instead of having to stay behind and work…
