Superbowl Weekend Festivities

I had a ton of cleaning and crafting that I needed to do this weekend but we ended up being too busy for me to do any of it.  Oh well **sigh**.  I guess I’ll have to be extra productive this weekend.  Oh wait, we’ll be gone again, lol.  Ok I guess I’ll have to try to be extra productive on the week nights then.  That’s going to be hard for me, I’m always so exhausted after work.  I’ll let you know how much stuff I’m actually able to get done this week.

Saturday morning Ryan and I headed up to Jacksonville for our niece Aubrey’s 2nd Birthday party.  The party was super cute – Mel did a Minnie Mouse theme (and zebra print) so everything was hot pink with zebra stripes and Minnie Mouse ears.  She even made labels for the water bottles, little gift bags for the kids, a balloon banner, cupcakes and put little stickers on every single Hershey’s kiss…and everything matched the theme.  I’d say she definitely put a ton of work into getting it all coordinated and it all came out great…go Mel!

After the party we went back to Greg & Mel’s for a bit and then I went out to dinner with Mel and some of her friends.  One of her friends is about to move away so they were having a “going away” mom’s night out.  It was nice of them to invite me to go along, I hope they didn’t think it was weird that I went with Mel since I’m not in their mom’s group (I don’t even have kids).  Oh well, the person who the dinner was for (Emily) knew me so that’s all that counts right?  It was pretty fun though.

Sunday we hung out in the morning then got some Chicago style pizza and headed back to Palm Bay.  We were home for probably less than an hour before it was time to go to Nate’s “Superbowl Hangout”.  He didn’t want a big party this year so it was just a small group of us hanging out.  It was pretty fun but I wish I had eaten dinner before we went because all I ended up eating was chips and dip.  I didn’t really care who won the game but I was hoping to win the Superbowl Squares game.  For anyone who hasn’t played, here’s how it works: You draw a grid with 400 squares (there are 100 squares for each quarter, 10 squares by 10 squares).
Picture
Prior to the start of each quarter of the game, you can “buy” a square on the grid for 25 cents (some people play for more but a quarter seems to work out for us).  We just put solo cups out and label them “1st Quarter”, “2nd Quarter”, “3rd Quarter” and “4th Quarter”.  You can go to the grid and bet on any quarter of the game as long as it hasn’t started by dropping 25 cents per square you wish to buy in the cup and then you write your initials in the box you want.

Once the 1st quarter starts (kickoff), then betting is closed and no more squares can be bought.  At that time, the numbers 0-9 are assigned to the top and bottom of the first quarter grid (we take out Ace through 10 from a deck of cards, shuffle and flip over to determine the order).  Now, go look at the square(s) that you wrote your initials or name on.  Whatever numbers you got are the score you need.  Example: if you got Patriots: 4, Giants: 0 then in order to win you need the scores to end in those numbers (it could be 4, 14, 24, etc for Patriots or 0,10,20, etc for Giants – in this example).  Whatever the score is at the end of the quarter determines who wins the money from that quarter.  If no one wins, you can either roll the money over to the next quarter to increase the stakes, or it can go to the house.  We like to roll it over to really get people excited.

In prior years, Ryan has won several times but this year we didn’t win anything.  I still like playing though because it keeps me interested in the game.  I like football but I’m a Kansas City Chiefs fan and since they are terrible they never get close to the superbowl so I usually don’t care who wins.  This way, I’m always rooting for something to happen so that the score gets to the numbers I need in order to win the money.  It was also a nice surprise to see Carolyn come out for a little bit!  I feel like I haven't gotten to see her in quite a while.  We need to make dinner plans with them sometime soon.  This week I'm also going to get to do a dinner/movie date with Rachel, yay!  What did you guys all do for the superbowl?  Did you watch it at least?  And the most important questions: 1) did you like the half time show? and 2) did you have a favorite commercial?  I felt neutral about the half time show - i didn't love it, but I didn't think it was the worst one I've ever seen either.  I think my favorite commercial is this one:
Although this one was pretty good too:
