A month or two ago, Piper hired a young female stress analyst named Angela. I quickly found out that she liked to run and was interested in running before work. I was SO excited to have found a possible running partner and it's really been working out great. After only a couple weeks we decided that we needed to sign up for a race to train for together. So what did we pick?? Click the pic to see more race info.
The Melbourne Half Marathon on February 2nd! Not only did we do that but we have a goal of 2:00 or less (9:10 per mile) with a stretch goal (mostly for Angela) of 1:50 (8:25 per mile). We picked the following training plan from Cool Running.
It's probably a little higher in mileage than what we really need but if we're going to hit a good time, heehee. We're also using my favorite phone and web app RunKeeper. You can use the app on your iPhone or Android phone with your GPS and it will keep track of all your runs and show you your splits which is pretty cool. In addition to that, you can manually enter runs in the app, you can pair it with other apps to keep track of your weight loss and such. And...you can see your friends so on the days Angela and I can't run together, we can see whether the other person got their run in. Talk about accountability! On top of getting to run with my new running partner...getting back in running shape has also given me a chance to do some more runs with other people too! The other day I got to run with my brother-in-law Greg through the wind and snow in Maryland. We did five miles! I definitely wouldn't have gotten that far without a partner. And when I was in Dallas for my stepmom's birthday, my Dad and I got in a 7.5 mile run! Here's a pic of us getting ready to brave the cold and sleet!
I am a part time quilter, full time engineer and hope to one day become a full time quilter. Feel free to read along as I explore quilting, cooking and anything else that strikes my fancy.
