I can't believe it's been over 2 months since I started working on my Star Surround Quilt along quilt! Obviously the quilt along is over now so I didn't get a chance to win any prizes, but I still need to finish the quilt. After the fabric cutting, it was time to sew some Half Square Triangles (HST's). First I grouped the cut blocks as instructed, sewed two diagonal lines and trimmed to turn each sewn block into two Half Square Triangle blocks. Then I pressed them open. Next comes the REALLY tedious part - trimming them all so they are squared up and the right size. So, this is what a typical night looks like for me if I have a tedious task to do. I move my stuff downstairs with Ryan, put something entertaining on the TV (here's a blurry pic of Walking Dead, LOL) and trim away. I haven't looked at the rest of the series blog posts yet but I think the squares I just sewed and trimmed are going to be used to make the star centers, like this: The block above had 16 squares to trim and then I had to make 16 of the big blocks. So that means I had to sew, press and trim 256 blocks!!
