Last weekend I was going to pick up the whole house and get it back to normal...until I opened the fridge. Yuck. Normally, if something spills I just wipe the shelf. But eventually gunk just builds up and it was time to empty the whole fridge and clean it out. So I spent some time doing that and it came out pretty squeaky clean.
I finished cleaning up the fridge, counters and sink when I realized the microwave was pretty dirty too...so I scrubbed it down. And then I realized there was only one appliance I hadn't cleaned yet, the worst one of all...the OVEN. I'm embarrassed to say that my oven was this dirty
Now, I'm not a big fan of oven cleaners. Who knows what crazy harsh chemicals are in them and some of them leave a strange film that you have to scrub off later. So I looked on pinterest to see what other people were doing when i realized "Of Course! Baking soda and vinegar!" The vinegar reacts with the baking soda, fizzing and helping to eat through the crud on the oven. I used my flour sifter to sprinkle an even thin layer of baking soda all over the oven. Then I used a squirt bottle to spray it down with vinegar. Let it sit a few minutes (or more) and then scrub off with a Brillo pad. I had a little bit of a hard time getting the walls but i realized the solution afterwards: mix the baking soda with a small amount of water to make it a paste and spread that on the vertical walls, then spray with vinegar and continue as usual. Anyways, I'd say it came out pretty dang good considering I didn't use any cleaners.
