Reception Decor

7/23/2012

Ok so I had this idea in my head of what I wanted the reception decor to look like...the restaurant has these pretty dark wood tables and chairs so I was going to leave off the tablecloths and go with a natural look.  I wanted to add mossy tablerunners and then have a birdcage with flowers and a hand-stitched bird on it.  I was thinking I would have little bud vases with hydrangeas in it and that would be pretty much it - natural, simple and cute.

But...when we went for our menu tasting, I was talking to the coordinator and she said that they don't actually use the restaurant chairs because they don't have enough - they use an unattractive standard (sea foam green) banquet chair.  And for the round tables, they aren't natural wood, they're the folding type so you have to put a tablecloth on them.  Here are my issues with this:

  1. I'm not sure the mossy (actual dried moss) will look very good on white tablecloths.  Should I try to completely change the idea?  Or rent purple tablecloths or overlays?  I think it would be around $150 for standard purple tablecloths.
  2. I now have to either rent white chair covers with sashes (which I don't really like the look of) for $3ea or I can rent the chiavari chairs for ~$6ea.  Either way, it's a huge increase to my reception decor costs

So what do you guys think?  Any suggestions to make it look good together?  Do I need to find a way to budget for the chiavari chairs and purple tablecloths?  Or should I try to come up with a new scheme all together?  Help!

Ashley, I think the moss would look fine on white tablecloths. If you want to break it up, I could loan you the wood slices that we used as centerpieces. I think the moss and birdcage would look cute on that. I think we have 23 of them? Also maybe you could rent chaircovers but no sashes? Would that be cheaper? Solid white should look fine. The chiavari chairs are so pretty but not sure it's worth that much just for a chair! There's also a small chance they would allow you to rent chairs from an outside vendor and you could find some regular looking ones for cheaper.

Hey Kayla! No I can't rent the chair cover without the sash (the chair covers are $3ea). I can rent chairs from outside vendors and it is cheaper...until you add in the delivery and pickup fees (most places are in orlando). I don't think the Chiavari chairs are worth it either - right now i'm betting i'll have to just deal with the cost of the chair covers. Still haven't decided on the tablecloths yet, we'll see. Thanks for the offer of the trunks - i'll try to figure out what i'm doing and let you know if i want to borrow them :)
