I know that some of you may think it's weird...but I can't concentrate when I have a messy workspace. Sometimes I can get away with shoving stuff into drawers and closets to hide the mess so I can get through a project or meet a deadline. But eventually I open that closet or drawer and see the contents spilling out and falling all over each other. Then...I FREAK OUT and go into an organizing mania. During April and May I was super busy and had been shoving stuff into cabinets, drawers and closets and today I went to pick up a few things and realized just how bad it had gotten. Here is the fabric that was all just haphazardly thrown into a cabinet with no rhyme or reason: I found scraps from SOO many projects: Ryan's VW Bus quilt (2007), tote bags (2008), diaper bag/baby gifts (2009), Aubrey's baby gift (2010), Aubrey's first bday present (2011), Addison's baby gift (2011) and even several projects that I had bought materials and started cutting and then decided I didn't want to do the project at all. And then there is the mass collection of fabric remnants I had been gradually buying from JoAnn's. I remember when I first started sewing I saw lots of articles on what to do with scraps - entire quilts made from scraps. At the time, I thought "wow, that is a ton of scraps. These ladies must overbuy fabric for their projects. Or maybe they've been building a collection for 20 years". And suddenly here I am with TONs of scrap fabric. To remedy this situation, I've decided that as soon as I finish the outstanding order I am working on, I am going to find a project for Tshirt scraps and empty my tshirt scrap bin. Then after I make Gwen's 2nd Tshirt quilt, I'm going to make as many baby gift items to sell on my Etsy site as I can and try to use up my two baskets worth of flannel and Minky. Then after I quilt one of the antique quilts I need to work on...I will try to tackle the cotton scraps. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. First the Etsy order, then the tshirt scraps. Anyone have any good suggestions for what I should do with the tshirt scraps? I want something I can either sell on my Etsy shop or display/use in my house.
