Need to Run, Run, Run

Last night I was looking through some old Facebook photos and I came across this photo of me on the Florida Tech Cross Country team my freshman year of college (age 18 - 19).  I remember that year I ate more food than you would think is feasible. Sometimes I'd eat an entire pizza and then for dessert I would buy one of the gallons of ice cream and i wouldn't even use a bowl - i'd just keep eating it until I was stuffed.  And yet I was so skinny!  So I started to think...how did i stay so skinny when I ate like crap?  And then I remembered: We ran and ran and ran.  For the first two weeks of cross country we would have a 6am running practice, a 10am weights/abs and a 3pm second run or swim workout.  And we would do this 7 days a week.  Then once classes started we would scale it back but we would still have a running practice 5 days a week, a 5k race each week and then weights/abs at least three times a week.

I would love to get back down to that weight and lately, every time I try to eat healthier it fails sooner or later.  So now I'm thinking it's time for a new approach.  let's work on exercising a lot more and not worry about dieting or eating healthy.  I mean I won't get a Cinnabon for breakfast but I'm not going to follow a meal plan or anything.  Instead I'm just going to focus on working out 1-2 times every day and see what happens.  Typically, the more I exercise, the more I want to eat healthy anyways so hopefully after a few weeks some of my bad habits (like Coca Cola) will no longer be a craving at all.  So I'll keep you posted on how it's going.

Today's Workouts:
5:45am Causeway (Bridge) Run with Steven (ran 3.5miles, I forgot my watch but Steve said I was at about a 9:30 pace)

Also, when I was interfacing Emmy's quilt I realized that I spend a lot of time standing at the ironing board.  You basically set the iron down in a spot, let it sit there for  ~5 seconds and then move it to the next spot.  This process gets repeated over and over for an hour or more.  I realized I could be doing a few little exercises while pressing.  So while I was waiting for the iron I would do a few jumping jacks, squats, lunges, calf raises or whatever other exercises I could do quickly and without moving away from the ironing board.  Surprisingly, my quads were pretty sore today from my little exercise yesterday so I'm going to try to keep doing it in the future.  Now if only I could convince myself to exercise more when we're watching TV...LOL
