After we left San Francisco at the end of our secret vacation (Friday 5/25) we flew to Colorado to spend the weekend with my family. My parents were there, plus my brother and sister, my Aunt Katie, my mom's friend Cindy and my grandmother too. After we got there we all went to lunch together and hung out for the afternoon while we waited for everyone to get into town. We didn't do a whole lot of planned activities over the weekend but it was nice to just hang out together and have some fun. But there were two pretty cool things that happened:
1) My mom and Joe hosted a little engagement dinner for us and we had a delicious dinner followed by some Dom Perignon and a delicious chocolate peanut butter cake that even had a picture of Ryan and I when we first started dating. My mom's friend Cindy even gave us some note cards with our names on them - she's so nice!
2) On Sunday, my mom and sister and I went to David's Bridal just to look around for a bit and maybe try on a dress or two. I tried on one and didn't really like it. I tried on a second one and it was pretty but I wasn't sure if it was THE dress. So I tried on some more and after every one I kept saying "well this is nice but I still like the second one the best". And before you know it I ended up buying it! They shipped it from the store to my house in FL and now it's upstairs just waiting for me, yay! Plus my sister Amanda tried on a few bridesmaid dresses to see if we liked any of them.
Monday was our last day in Colorado and we started the day by running the Bolder Boulder 10K race (6.2miles). We were all horribly out of shape but it was still fun. There are about 55,000 people that run the race and there are tons of people that come out in their yard along the course and offer things like free beer, cupcakes, eggs & bacon, etc. There's lots of entertainment too - belly dancers, bands, slip n slides, you name it! At the end of the race, you finish at the University of Colorado football stadium on the track and then later there is a big memorial day celebration. We watched the jets flyover (no parachuters this year because of the wind unfortunately), listened to speeches about vets and walked around the Expo to get free stuff.
Eventually the whole group made it back to my parent's house and shuffled through the shower, full of food and tired and sore from the race. We only had a short amount of time before we had to fly back to Florida. Of course our flight was shortly delayed so we didn't get home until around 2am but it was still a nice weekend and a great end to our surprise trip. I hope we get to see everyone again soon!
