Man On A Ledge Review

2/7/2012

I had a dinner and movie date with Rachel tonight so you know what that means right?  Time for a movie review.  Ok who has ever seen the movie "Phonebooth"? You know the one, with Colin Farrell - where he stands in a phonebooth and talks on the phone the whole movie.  Well that was a terrible movie and this was nothing like it (I mention it because there are some skeptics who seemed to think this movie would be a repeat of that one).  The premise of the movie (as can be seen in the previews) is that an innocent man was framed for stealing a $40 million diamond, escaped from prison, and is now trying to prove his innocence by stealing the diamond (again...to prove he couldn't have stolen it before).  However, he is actually on a ledge...at a hotel across the street from where the diamond is.  He is attracting plenty of attention from pedestrians, cops and reporters as he stands on the ledge (allegedly to jump off).  So what happened?  I'm not going to tell you!  Go buy a ticket and watch it yourself :) But you can see my review below.
Picture
Action: 4 stars (out of 5) - contrary to the preview, they don't spend the whole movie on the ledge of a hotel room.  There are guns and fighting too :)

Plot: 5 stars!  The plot was good, well thought out with plenty of character involvement.  They kept you guessing on a few things but it wasn't impossible to figure out what was going on either

Casting: 5 stars! Sam Worthington plays the main character (best known for playing Jake Sully in Avatar) and he did a great job.  He can be serious or funny, whatever is needed.   The lead detective was played by Elizabeth Banks (Zack & Miri Make a Porno, Definitely Maybe, 40 Year Old Virgin).  I wasn't sure about her at first but she was awesome.  Then of course Ed Harris was the bad guy (he's looking old...really old).  I also liked the supporting character played by Edward Burns (27 dresses, Saving Private Ryan) - I hope he's in more movies coming up.

Dialog: 4 stars.  It had it's funny parts which always keeps me entertained.

Overall: 5 stars!  We only paid $5 tonight since they have cheaper tickets on Tuesday but I still wouldn't have been disappointed even if I had paid $10.  This movie had me giggling, getting nervous about what would happen, getting excited...you name it, this movie did it.  I will definitely be buying it!

It was awesome!! Totally agree that Ed Harris is looking old. There were definitely parts that were hilarious and totally quotable! LOVED IT!!
