Throughout the week I was doing tons of wedding research, trying to get us a venue and wedding date nailed down. We finally got the venue and the date nailed down (only minor details left for the venue) but there is still plenty more to do...
Friday night we went to a going-away party for a friend who is quitting his job at Harris. One of the program managers was there and he was buying the guys all sorts of pitchers of beer and irish car bombs, etc. At one point, Ryan and another guy even hijacked the band's microphone and did some impromptu karaoke, haha. We didn't end up getting home until about 2am which was pretty rough since we were meeting with a photographer at 8am.
Thus begins the longest day ever...we get up and go meet with the photographer but Ryan wasn't feeling very well...that's an understatement, he barely made it through without getting sick. I really liked the photographer so we booked them, yay! I took Ryan home to get some more sleep and then I went to the grocery store to get him some Ginger Ale and to get some supplies for our friend Josh's 30th birthday party. When I came home i was pretty tired too so i got a short nap in before Ryan woke me up and said we had to leave for Josh's party. I was a little apprehensive about this party because it was supposedly an all day event with numerous challenges and most were going to be very physically challenging. I am really out of shape and I am a big chicken - these guys do stuff like scaling an 8ft wall for fun...stuff i could never do. But we got there and there seemed to be people in way worse shape than I who were going to participate so I just hoped there would be things I would be able to do besides watch.
It turns out that there were 7 or 8 teams with 5-6 people on each team and then there were 15 events for us all to compete in. The teams were chosen randomly and each team was named after a general from the civil war (Lincoln, Lee, Custer, Clebourne, etc). Each event consisted of a physical part and a mental or silly part. For example, one of the events went like this:
1st person: Run to 8ft pyramid wall and scale/jump/climb over it. Go to the box containing all the teams clues and find the clue that is meant for your team. Give it to person 4/5 and go tag the next person.
2nd person: crawl under some low ropes. Go to the box containing all the teams clues and find the clue that is meant for your team. Give it to person 4/5 and go tag the next person.
3rd person: go through a crazy slip n slide then go to the last box containing clues and find the clue meant for your team. Give it to person 4/5.
4th & 5th Persons: gather the clues from the 1st three as they complete their obstacles. Once you have all three, run to a nearby picnic table. Dump out all the puzzle pieces and complete the puzzle.
Team with the fastest time wins that event - points awarded for first through fourth place. All of the events were like this - fun but complicated to explain. There was a word search, sumo wrestling, water chugging (don't worry not a dangerous amount), pushups, burpees, scavenger hunt etc. We also had bbq and side dishes and dessert.
We had to leave the party a little early because we realized it was already 6:30 and we still had a ton to do. So we went and got a birthday present for Ryan's niece Emma and a mother's day present for his mom. Then we came back and showered, started packing and getting stuff ready to head to Jacksonville. We drove to Jacksonville..well Ryan drove and I slept, and we got there around midnight. It was the longest day ever, LOL.
Then we spent today in Jacksonville with Ryan's mom and brother. We just got back a bit ago and I am exhausted. Probably doesn't help that Ryan and I were arguing most of the way home but oh well, it happens. Ok more updates tomorrow...hope everyone had a great mother's day weekend!
