Last weekend, I had a rare opportunity to hang out with my friend Liz for a bit – she’s so busy with school! We decided to go to breakfast at a new place around town called Keke’s Breakfast Café and then to go see the new movie “Gravity” with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

Keke’s is only open for breakfast and lunch and while they serve lunch they are definitely geared towards breakfast. I couldn’t decide whether to get an omelet or some apple cinnamon (I told you I was obsessed) French toast. Fortunately for me, Liz was thinking the same thing so we got both and shared – it was perfect!
After we stuffed ourselves with delicious food, we headed over to The Oaks movie theater to see Gravity. Based on the previews, I didn’t expect the movie to be that great but it has Sandra Bullock AND George Clooney in it so I had to at least give it a chance.

The movie starts out with what you expected in the trailer – Sandra Bullock gets separated after some debris from crashed satellites goes by like bullets and then she is free floating/spiraling through space, terrified. I thought the whole movie was going to be about that but it wasn’t at all! George Clooney rescues her using his jet pack and they head back to their shuttle together, shaken up but totally fine.
What the previews didn’t show is that the real movie really starts after she gets rescued! When they get back to the shuttle, it’s been totally destroyed by the projectiles – killing everyone in it and destroying the escape pod too. Sandra and George decide to use his jet pack to try to get to the nearby International Space Station in under 90 minutes before the debris should pass them again.

They get to the ISS and the escape pod is there but the parachute has already been deployed so it would be useless to return to Earth. But it might have enough fuel to get to the nearby Chinese space station and use their pod. One disaster after another ends up with George Clooney floating off to space (not Sandra) and instead Sandra Bullock miraculously makes it back to Earth, overcoming a TON of obstacles.

The movie was not nearly as cheesy as I expected and they even threw a few little plot twists in there that were unexpected. Plus we saw it in 3D and the 3D graphics were really good – they didn’t try too hard to make things come out of the screen but you felt like you were right there and could have reached past the actors and touched things in the background. Overall I really enjoyed this movie. I’m not sure yet if I’ll run out and buy the DVD but I don’t regret paying the $7 to see it on the big screen in 3D and I’ll certainly watch it again when it comes to Redbox or Netflix!
