I didn't have a lot of time for homemade Christmas gifts this year but I did think of one small thing to make...embroidered golf towels!
First, I got these microfiber golf towels on Amazon. They are only $15 for a three pack! There were a few mixed reviews on Amazon but for such a good deal I decided it was worth a try. The quality of the towels seems plenty nice to me and the d-ring seems pretty sturdy. They definitely met my expectations. For my first attempt, I wanted to just do Ryan's name on the corner of a towel. I set it up on my embroidery machine, loaded the hoop and stabilizer like usual and started embroidering. But the "R" wasn't coming out very good...hmm, what to do? It seemed like the tension was fine but the loops on the towel were getting pulled through the embroidery. so I decided to just add another piece of tear-away stabilizer on the top of the towel (I normally only use it underneath the piece). it was too late to fix the "R" but it looked much better on the other letters after I added that stabilizer!
Once I got it figured out, I made a golf towel for my FIL for Christmas with his name on it.
Since I had a third towel, I decided to make one more for Rusty and add a little putting green image.
The thin font is a little harder to read but it still came out pretty cool. This was my first experience trying to embroider on microfiber or towels and it went pretty well. I think if I wanted to do an actual kitchen or bath towel with the long loops, I would buy some of the iron on stabilizer meant specifically for towels. But this worked pretty well and made a fun little Christmas gift for very little cost! Maybe I'll make some fun designs to put up in my shop for Father's Day!
