Important Edit: I should have put this at the beginning of discussing this bag but I forgot so the end will have to suffice. This design is not my original design - I have modified it slightly but I made this bag from a tutorial found here: http://www.warehousefabricsinc.com/blog/diaper-bag-with-a-divider/
I got the fabric I needed for the last piece of Tammy's diaper bag. So where were we? I cut the 4" x 13" piece I needed for the side of the lining and finished stitching the lining. The picture above shows the completed lining but from the outside (you won't see this part once it's sewn in. Next, I put the lining inside the bag exterior and got it ready to sew together. The instructions say to sew the bag the more traditional way - leave an opening in the lining, sew with right sides together and then flip the bag inside out through a small opening. However, when I've made this bag in the past, I've found it very difficult to turn the bag through the opening so the last few times I have used my own method for finishing. I turn under the edges of the lining and the exterior (so they will both be hidden once sewn). I use binder clips to hold the interior and exterior of the bag in place until sewn. As you can see, I use a lot of binder clips. Then I stitched around the very top, removing each binder clip as I went. Next I sewed on the straps (you can see the strap tabs hanging out waiting for them) and installed a latch. Last but not least...I decided to make a little strap protector to protect the shoulder from the straps when the bag is heavy (I'm sure she'll pack this bag full of goodies for Colton). Here's the boxes all packed up. Did I say boxes? Why would I need more than one box? Oh that's right...the other two are Valentine's Day packages ready to be sent out as well. You'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out more about what's in the Valentine's Day Boxes :)
