Alpha Phi Alumnae Weekend

10/7/2013

Friday was Alpha Phi’s 4th Annual Red Dress Gala to raise money for Women’s Heart Health.  Each year, the sorority hosts a formal evening including dinner and dancing and guests are encouraged to wear red.  They still tickets to the event for around $45 each and then all of the proceeds go to the Alpha Phi Foundation who distributes the money as grants to various organizations across the country who excel in the area of heart health and heart disease research.  This year I attended by myself (no Ryan and the other advisors couldn’t come either) and it went pretty well.  The girls ended up selling 275 tickets compared to last year’s 250.  Between ticket sales and the auction, I think they will probably have at least a couple thousand to donate to the foundation – maybe more!

Saturday the collegians and alumnae gathered at the new Greek Village to see the new housing and hang out together.  Not everyone has moved in yet to the new housing so it was a little sparse but it was nice to see where they will be at.  Unfortunately, we couldn’t see what the chapter room (main/great room where they would have large meetings) would look like so hopefully they’ll get to move in soon and we can see how that will be set up.  By the time I got home after hanging out, it was already almost 6pm and all the alumnae had agreed to meet back up at the Broken Barrel Tavern for food and drinks at 7pm so I didn’t have time to get much of anything done before I headed back out to socialize some more.  There weren’t very many alumnae who were able to attend this year (so sad!) but it was fun to catch up with the few who were around!

Finally, on Sunday they had a day at the beach but I wasn’t able to go because I needed to get some freezer cooking done (more on that soon!).  The events were planned well but next year we need to make sure more alumnae can make it out!  I think there were only 5 of us who came out this year when last year there were around 30.
