Overall it was a great trip with a few friends and I came back excited to plan our next vacation!
Sorry about the break in posting but we were gone for about a week on an awesome ski trip! Our friends Nate & Kayla and Rob & Kristen convinced us to plan a ski trip out in Colorado. The trip was partly for Kayla's birthday and partly just to get in at least a couple more friends' trips before everyone has kids or gets too busy. We got to Colorado on Tuesday afternoon and headed to my parents' house to borrow some much needed snow gear. I had my pants and coat but I needed gloves, goggles, etc and Ryan didn't really have anything at all. So we were super grateful that they were willing to let us borrow the ski stuff. After that, we headed to our resort in Breckenridge, CO which was only about 1hr 45mins away. My mom has a condo out there and they let us use it for the week. I had never seen it before so we were really impressed with how awesome it was. They had a great spa and adult only hot tub, sauna and steam room. We also really loved the movie theater room that you could book just for your group and then watch whatever movie you wanted. And of course the best part...you could ski right out the back door! Tuesday night we got Mexican food at a place called Mi Casa and it was SOO good - we really don't have good Mexican food in FL so it was a nice change. We skied all day Wednesday and I did ok but I am pretty rusty. Mostly I'm just a big chicken now. Did you notice we wore helmets? Apparently now everyone wears helmets, crazy huh? Well they were actually very comfortable and they kept your head and ears warm, yay! On Thursday, Ryan and I went to a sales pitch for a timeshare at the resort in order to get two free lift tickets (more on that later...). We also went to the Frisco Adventure park that day for some snow tubing since we weren't going to ski. The tubing was so fun and pretty inexpensive! I highly recommend it if you need a day off from skiing or just want to do something different for a day. Unfortunately, by the time we got done with that Ryan wasn't feeling very well. Nate had a cold the first day or so and then I guess Ryan got it. He went back to the hotel while the rest of us went into town to go to the Breckenridge Brewery. We tried a few different beers there but my favorite was definitely the Avalanche Amber (I was surprised the wheat wasn't my favorite but the Amber was soo smooth). Their appetizers were surprisingly good too! On Friday, we got up to go skiing and after the first run...Ryan decided he wasn't feeling well enough to ski. Fortunately, the ski resort was nice enough to refund the cost of his lift ticket since he only went up one time. He pretty much stayed in bed all day long while the rest of us skied and then went into town. I mostly skied by myself since I am pretty slow but it was still lots of fun. And we were fortunate that the weather was sunny and relatively warm! There are several different areas to ski at Breckenridge as you can see on the map below. I think I skied all the greens on Peak 9 and 8 as well as about half the blues on Peak 9 and Peak 7. The guys went up to the VERY top and did some crazy double black diamonds and tree skiing. I'm glad no one got hurt! Saturday was our last day in Breckenridge and finally everyone was able to ski (even though Ryan still didn't feel that well). I almost made it the whole week without falling until the last run on the last day...a snowboarder came flying over the hill and ran smack into me. I tumbled down the mountain a ways but I was glad/surprised to find I wasn't really hurt.
