But last year, Al (Doreen’s husband) complained that we weren’t making “pretty” enough cookies anymore. He wanted an attractive looking platter for Christmas day and too many people were making boring drop cookies, LOL. So this year I went on my pinterest board and found a couple of prettier cookies to make. First I made these spiral cookies:
Sorry for these old posts but I found some pictures on my camera that reminded me I forgot to post some neat stuff that we did in December. Between the wedding, honeymoon, and Christmas I guess I just forgot to write about them. On the weekend before Christmas, Doreen had her annual cookie bake. She usually goes for two days. On the first day, lots of family members come over and then on the second day she has a few family or friends over. Everyone brings their own baking supplies and recipes and makes at least one kind of cookies (preferably two though). Then, when the cookies are all done, there are tons of different kinds of cookies and everyone makes a tin or platter of Christmas cookies. Last year I made Chocolate Italian cookies and I think I might have made them the year before. I also usually help Doreen bake whatever cookies she has left that she wants to make (she usually picks at least 5 recipes). First I made these spiral cookies: They were just a basic butter cookie. You split the dough in half and color each half as desired. Then you roll each half into a rectangle and lay the two rectangles on top of each other. Starting with a short side you roll them up and then seal the edges. The log then gets rolled in sprinkles and is ready to slice and bake. Easy right? The spiral cookies came out neat looking but they weren’t my favorite tasting cookie – they were just ok. However, the next cookie I made was definitely my favorite and it was super cute! These are definitely a keeper! I used the Jif peanut butter cookie recipe to make the cookies and then I added chocolate covered pretzels for antlers, brown M&M’s for eyes and a mini red M&M for a nose to make…RUDOLF!! Also, while I was doing a little cleaning and re-organizing in the kitchen, I found out that I have an entire Christmas Cookies cookbook (a mini one from Betty Crocker I think). So next year I will definitely be checking that out for new cookie exchange ideas.
