Most of you know I've been on Pinterest for a while but I made some big changes lately. I changed my username to Quilted Affair so you can find me easier (if you were following me before you are still following me now). And, more importantly, I added a bunch of great content and resources on my preferred tools, suppliers, patterns, etc! See below for some info about all my new boards - click the pic to go see the full board.

A couple months ago, my sister-in-law Corine, messaged me about making a weighted blanket for her son (my nephew) Ethan. What is a weighted blanket? It’s exactly what you think it is: a blanket that is heavy. You can use polypropylene (plastic) pellets inside the blanket to weigh it down. These blankets can be used to help with a huge variety of ailments – ADD, depression, autism, restless legs syndrome, the list goes on and on…Ethan was having some trouble sleeping so his doctor recommended getting him a weighted blanket but they are very expensive. Being smart, Corine thought “hey I bet Ashley could make that!” so we did! Here's how to make a weighted blanket.
I know I'm probably crazy (ok definitely crazy), but I'm going to participate in my first Quilt-A-Long (QAL)! Yay!! This QAL is hosted by Melissa at Happy Quilter and we'll be making this beautiful pattern of hers called the Star Surround Quilt. But what exactly is a QAL? Well, it's basically a free pattern but each week, one step of the process is explained and then you are tasked with completing that step for your quilt before the next week. You can post pics of your work, see other people's work, ask questions and get help. It's a great resource for anyone who wants to try quilting but hasn't jumped in yet.
Do you remember the virtual reality headsets that they used to have in some of the malls? Like the one from the movie “First Kid”? Would you believe that virtual reality headsets are coming soon to a store near you?
Well, believe it! The Oculus Rift is going to make 3D video games available to the average consumer! Last summer, Ryan saw a Kickstarter project for a new toy that he really wanted. Before I tell you all about it, I want to tell you about a crowd-funding platform called Kickstarter.
Like I mentioned in my post about our recent Scalloping Trip, we had quite a bit of scallop meat and wanted to prepare them a few different ways. The recipes below show how I prepared our Florida Bay Scallops but I'm sure you could use the same recipes for the larger ocean scallops.
It’s hard to believe but this is my 200th blog post! I started with my “First Website, First Blog!” post on January 12th, 2012. My website looked quite a bit different then since I hadn’t gotten my logo made or chosen my colors yet:
For our 2nd Annual Scalloping Trip, one of my best friends (and Alpha Phi big sister) Ashley H came down to visit. She has some awesome bath and body products (which I reviewed here) at her shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/RareEarthBathAndBody?ref=pr_faveshops. She is also going through a lot of dental work right now and is documenting it all on her blog. Her orthodontist had given her a little plastic zip top bag to keep everything for her braces (wax, floss, etc) and it was such a cheap piece of junk that it already broke. Since she was already down here, we figured we could just whip up a cute replacement based on my scraps.
I came up with a fun little workout the other day and just thought I'd share. This one is a tough one so I've also listed a shorter version to make it easier. Here's the full workout if you think you're tough enough, heeehee. I'm calling it the "Negative Burpee" workout because you are basically trying to do negative splits (each run faster than the last) and you do lots of burpees. Here we go, wahoo! You don't need any equipment for this workout except for a stopwatch and the only exercises you need to know how to do are burpees, mountain climbers, pushups and situps. Below is a video showing how to do burpees in case you don't know how. This video shows her doing the pushups as part of the burpee - I like to separate them and do the pushups afterwards. If you want to do them as part of your burpees like in this video, you can skip the separate set of pushups you see listed in my workout. |
