After I got all the blocks sewn, I played around with a couple of different layouts until I found one I liked. I decided to have the columns of planes alternating directions and the different colored backgrounds going in a diagonal pattern. I also tried to make it so there weren't two planes with the same fabric near each other. Fortunately for me, Tabitha was perfectly happy with this layout so I was able to go ahead and piece together the top. After piecing all the blocks together, I added an inner border in this cute polka dot fabric Tabitha bought and then added an outer border with a pink floral. It was hard to decide which border to have on the inside but since there are pink blocks that the pink border would be touching I picked polka dots on the inside. Time to load it onto the quilt machine! Since this is an airplane quilt, I tried to make it look like they are flying through the clouds... I did the cloud-like quilting pattern all over the quilt and then it was ready for trimming and finishing touches.
