It's hard to believe it's been almost two years but...Ryan finally finished my 2013 birthday present. LOL. Yes I have gotten other gifts since then but this one took a while to get done. I had drawn up plans for a kitchen island that I wanted to build and he decided to make it for me for my birthday. Click on the pics below to see the first two parts of this post or read on to see the finished island!
July 2013: Planning & Box Building
January 2014: Assembly & Doors
We left off a year ago when he had glued the top together but not installed it (the top shown above is just the top of the box, not the actual counter surface). He brought the glued countertop in and secured it to the main island structure.
I can't seem to find many more progress pictures (or maybe I forgot to take them?) but once the counter was secured, he cut the curve to match the structure, stained the countertop and painted the rest white. Originally I designed the cabinet with tilting trash and recycle bins but after some work on it, Ryan decided it would be better if they were drawers instead. As much as he grumbled about cutting the curves I drew, it came out absolutely stunning and everyone who sees it comments on how neat the curved parts are!
I am a part time quilter, full time engineer and hope to one day become a full time quilter. Feel free to read along as I explore quilting, cooking and anything else that strikes my fancy.
