I can't believe I didn't blog about the Battle of the Bridges Triathlon! On Sunday September 28th, 2014, I completed my first Olympic distance triathlon. I had done numerous sprint distance triathlons before and I had done the Battle of the Bridges sprint distance in 2011. But I had never done an olympic distance. This race was 1500m swim, 23km bike and 10k (6.2mi) run. There were only 30 female participants in the olympic distance!
My goal for the swim was to finish without having to stop for sidestroke or breaststroke but I ended up having to rest some. Frankly, when I got out of the water I was just thrilled that I finished and didn't quit! I finished the swim in 45:40, 3rd out of 3 in my age group, 19th out of 30 women and 65th overall. I'm in the pics below with the pink and orange trisuit and bulky gps watch on my left wrist.
I had a 2:30 transition for both T1 and T2. For the bike, I finished in 1:35:46 which according to their site is only 15.57mph but I think my gps showed a slightly longer course. Also, it was really rainy and the conditions weren't great so I guess it's not too bad. When I got to the run, I started feeling pretty darn tired - the first few miles were at a decent pace but then there was a LOT of walking. I ended up with a 10:30 pace overall which is pretty slow for me...but again, I was just thrilled to finish!
