As most of you know, I am on the advisory board for the chapter of Alpha Phi at Florida Tech. One of the girls who I advise is in charge of the new member education and experience and she approached me over the summer about an idea she had. She wanted to give all the girls journals so that they could make notes or even use it like a diary. Well it just so happened that I had just made a Journal Cover for myself so of course I volunteered to make some for the new girls – all 15 of them! Usually they have more like 6 – 9 new girls so I was happily surprised at how many she needed made. We worked together to choose a few cute fabrics and settled on the following fabrics: Medium Rainbow Chevron by Riley Blake, Pink Tumble Roses from the Love Collection by Amy Butler, Doodle Damask in Mermaid from the Wallflower Collection by Michael Miller, and Shark Bite in Candy Pink from the Tiki-Tini Lounge collection. I used my embroidery machine to embellish the front of each one. For the designs, I used the PEDesign software to combine applique letters and frames with various text and to make the big dipper design. I put a ribbon bookmark on each one and sewed my tag into the inside back flap of each. I ended up skipping the pen holder and the inside pockets on these for expediency (plus, I forgot the pen holder on mine and haven’t missed it and I did put an inside pocket on mine and I never use it). After I had the lining and side flap pieces ready I sewed them all together. I think they came out so cute and the girls absolutely loved them! Something tells me I might need to start listing these in my Etsy shop or the other 30 girls who didn’t get one (I only made them for the new members) are going to be jealous and calling me to see if I’ll make them one, LOL.
